The first circus I remember seeing was 1969 RBBB Blue unit in Venice, Florida (before they hit the road).

Ringling Bros., Barnum & Bailey in the early 1950's while they were still under the Big Top, Watertown N.Y.  I was 5 or 6  years old.  My Dad took me back to clown alley before the show and I still remember the sights and sounds of the event.  In his youth my Dad always showed up when they came to town to earn free tickets by helping with the set up!

Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. When I was about five years older. I remember the big top, the smells, the Flying Gaonas and (I believe) Red Hartman working the Clyde Beatty wild animal act.

It was the late 1950s. I was 8 or 9 years old, living in Philadelphia. My dad took me. I'm pretty certain it was Hunt Brothers. I still remember standing in line, staring at the canvas expanse in front of us. I remember some of the smells...yep, the smells. I remember clown walk around and lots of animals. I was hooked.

RBBB 1948 Madison Square Garden.  The sights and sounds and smells of the Menagerie and sideshow as  well as the show itself are deeply treasured memories.  Wish I had been old enough to have a camera that could take show photos.

Saw several circus unloadings at dawn in prior years, but first circus I saw was Ringling Bros & BB in Ohio in July 1954.  Went with three other boys on our bicycles.  Afternoon show.  It was a straw house with no bleacher seats available so we were on sawdust or straw at one end of the tent.  Great show!
