Photo from the Pat Valdo Papers - Robert Parkinson Library and Research Center, Circus World Museum
When Ringling purchased the American Circus Corporation in 1929, he put Pat Valdo in charge of the performers for all of his shows which included recruiting, negotiating contracts etc. This is a photo of Pat Valdo with John Ringling and Equestrian Director Fred Bradna in about 1929 when Valdo was assistant to Bradna.
The grand old man of the circus joined Barnum and Bailey as a clown when the show returned from Europe at the end of the 1902 season. He remained with the circus as “Performance Director Emeritus” until his death in 1970 at the age of 89.
