This September 29, 2024 session of Circus History Live! featured Dave Letterfly Knoderer.
Letterfly's decision to run away and play drums with an old time, under canvas, three-ring circus as a teenager in 1970 launched him into a prolific, itinerant, and successful career as a circus artist, author, and speaker. While traveling with the circus, he satisfied his emerging artistic creative tendencies by painting huge signs, murals, wild animal depictions, and festive artwork on fleets of circus trucks and other circus equipment.
Letterfly still creates art the old-fashioned way – by hand with paint. In addition to creating airbrushed murals, gold leaf gilding, wet-blended pictorials and hand-lettering, he is in high demand as one of the top producers of old school pinstriping.
Circus Historical Society vice president Chris Berry hosted this session.
