The Circus Historical Society celebrated 2022 World Circus Day on Saturday April 16th with a Circus History Live! program that featured a conversation about the history of the Big Apple Circus with its founder and circus legend . . . Paul Binder! A recording of this program is available on the CHS YouTube Channel.
Paul Binder was artistic director of the Big Apple Circus from its inception in 1977 up to his retirement from the ring in 2008. With degrees from Dartmouth College and Columbia University, Mr. Binder is also a public speaker and author of Never Quote the Weather to a Sea Lion (and other uncommon tales from the founder of the Big Apple Circus) with a foreword by actress Glenn Close. Paul was a juror at the International Circus Festival of Monte-Carlo in 1994 and 2005, and was inducted into the Circus Ring of Fame in Sarasota Florida in 2014.
This program was hosted by Circus Historical Society vice president and circus historian: Chris Berry.
