Circus History Live! . . . the awards show

The Sunday October 24th session of the Circus Historical Society's Circus History Live! series featured the awarding of the 2021 Stuart Thayer Prize to Dawn V. Rogala for her book: When the Circus Came to Town!. Ms. Rogala is a Conservator and Program Manager at the Smithsonian’s Museum Conservation Institute. She travelled with and photographed eleven tented circuses in the 1990s, including Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros., the Big Apple, Carson & Barnes, Kelly Miller and 7 other circuses. Her work, the Dawn V. Rogala Circus Photographs and Papers Collection at the National Museum of American History is the largest circus collection at the Smithsonian Institution.

This program also recognized both the Barnum Museum and Circus World for their recent receipt of $500,000 Save America's Treasures grants from the National Park Service. Kathleen Maher, Executive Director of the Barnum Museum, and Scott O'Donnell, Director of Circus World, will brief us on how those grants will be used at their respective institutions.

All Circus History Live! sessions are free and open to both Circus Historical Society members and non-members. However, registration is required, and non-members are encouraged to Join. Membership includes access to our online Bookstore, where you can purchase used circus books, programs, CDs and DVDs, and to our new online message board: Jackpot Junction!
